If you have old jewellery that you would like to use for a new piece please include this information and an image when submitting the bespoke form. In most cases, I can reuse your metal and where possible, use stones if the original setting allows for easy & smooth removal of the stone without causing damage. I tend not to work with softer stones like emeralds and old rubies, because they can break easily during the extraction process. However, I will make you aware of any potential risk of breakage to stones before removal and require you to confirm in writing that you agree to these risks outlined, should you choose to go ahead with the extraction process. Bespoke pieces vary greatly depending on the type of materials used, the size, number and clarity of stones. As well as the complexity of the design and time taken. The minimum amount for a Silver commission starts at £250 and 9ct gold prices start from £750, *these prices are subject to fluctuations, dependent upon the metal prices on the day. Quotes are provided during the design stage of the process, and once confirmed, these prices will not be adjusted except for any additional services required such as fast track hallmarking, stone certification or postage.

Each piece made is unique, handmade and one-off. I work collaboratively with you to create something original and meaningful to you, so please note that I do not copy or replicate other jewellery artists' work. I encourage you to contact the original creator directly to honour their craftsmanship and creative rights if you are set on a style that sits outside of my creative aesthetic. I recommend that you buy a UK ring sizer or pop in to a local jeweller to get an accurate finger size before buying. I use the UK ring size system F - Z+2 and can offer half sizes.

Yes, I currently use two casting companies, one for gold and one for Silver based in Brighton. Both of these companies use recycled metal in their casting processes. All left over metal I have also gets sent to be reused and recycled on a regular basis.

The gemstones I use are sourced from trusted wholesalers who prioritise fair working practices, transparency and responsible mining standards. Coloured gemstone supply chains can be complex, and full traceability is not always possible for every stone, but I source as carefully and openly as I can.

Where suitable, I increasingly use recycled gemstones. These are genuine stones that have been carefully removed from vintage or nearly new jewellery and supplied by certified sellers of recycled gems. This can be a beautiful lower-impact option, especially for bespoke pieces where character, history and individuality are part of the appeal.

For newly sourced gemstones, I work with suppliers I trust and will always recommend the best options for your design, values and budget. I can also discuss origin, certification and lab-grown alternatives where these are relevant to the stone you are considering.

I only use stones that are genuine, high quality and suitable for the piece being made, and I will never knowingly source from suppliers whose practices I am uncomfortable with.

In some cases, I can arrange an independent gemstone ID card or gemmological report for your stone through a recognised laboratory. These are available for selected gemstones and can be useful for insurance records, gifting, resale documentation or simply for your own peace of mind.

A gemstone ID card is usually a compact summary of the key details of a stone. This may include information such as the gemstone type, approximate weight, measurements, shape, cut, colour and any basic identification notes provided by the laboratory. It is a useful option if you would like a simple record of what the stone is, without needing a more detailed document.

A full gemmological report is more detailed and may include additional testing, observations and documentation, depending on the stone and the laboratory used. For some gemstones, this may include more specific comments on treatments, origin or other characteristics, although not all details can be determined for every stone. A full report is often the better choice for higher-value gemstones and significant bespoke pieces.

Please note that these reports are identification documents, not valuations. They confirm details about the gemstone itself, but they do not usually state the finished jewellery’s replacement value for insurance purposes.

Because these are bespoke third-party services, additional costs and lead times will apply. In many cases, the stone may need to be sent to the laboratory before it is set, so please mention this during the design or consultation stage if you would like an ID card or report. I can then advise which option is most suitable for your stone, your budget and how you intend to use the documentation.

Pieces are hallmarked in accordance to the Hallmarking Act 1973, where any work over 7g will be given the full traditional hallmark with an ‘RSJ’ hall note. I also hallmark all gold Made to Order and Bespoke pieces. If you are buying a ready to wear piece and would like it to be hallmarked before it is sent, contact me to arrange payment. Please note that the standard services can take between 2-9 weeks, although a next day service is available for an additional fee.

Your jewellery is protected by a 12-month warranty, starting from your purchase date. During this period, I will repair any faults free of charge when the piece has been worn normally. Read more about the warranty policy for your jewellery here.

At checkout I offer two types of delivery with Royal Mail, Trackable 24 Service (£6) and Special Delivery next day (£11). The tracked 24 services allows for up to £150 insurance, whilst the standard SD next day provides up to £750 (& up to £2,500 where applicable). Please contact me if you prefer an alternative option.

Yes, I can post anywhere in the world except for EU countries (due to gpsr regulations). I use Royal Mail or FedEx (delivery time between 2 to 10 working days: £35) to send pieces internationally and use a trackable and fully insured service. Please email me to arrange postage before purchasing so that I can get an accurate cost for you. Please be aware that you are liable for any customs or tax duties that may arise upon receiving your items.

Bespoke items are not entitled to a refund or exchange unless faulty, but in some cases items can be remade or adjusted.
Rachel Strange Jewellery does not refund post or packaging costs, tax or duties payable for refunds.

I recommend that when jewellery is not worn, it is stored in separate bags as to not cause scratching with other pieces. Silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time but can be cleaned with a soft cloth that will be included with your order. 
Certain stones are more durable than others but care must always be taken to avoid bangs and scratches. Avoid wearing your pieces during heavy exercise, in the swimming pool or the sea so that they can maintain their shine & finish. Do not expose them to creams or strong perfumes.
